Accommodation
Finding the right accommodation plays a very important part in creating an unforgettable trip, so below I have included some platforms that I know and trust, and which give you flexibility to fit your style and your budget.
- Booking.com: No surprise here! Booking.com is my go-to when looking for accommodation. Whether you are looking for hotels, apartments or vacation homes, it’s a fantastic platform, and if you join the loyalty programme, you can unlock rewards and discounts the more you book.
- Airbnb: A great platform if you’re looking for an apartment to give you that greater sense of personal space, instead of a hotel or hostel. A good option if you’re looking for longer-term accommodation. I always compare options and pricing on Airbnb and Booking.com, as their offering are quite similar now.
- Flatio: A lesser-known option however, rapidly growing on a global scale. Similar to Airbnb, Flatio offers apartment rentals and is a fantastic option for longer-term accommodation with Wi-Fi and utilities included and no deposit required.
Transportation
No matter your chosen mode of transport, be that plane, train or car rental, here you can find my trusty resources to help you in making your travels as easy and stress-free as possible.
- Skyscanner: My first stop when searching for flights. Easy to navigate and compare flight options to find the best deals for you.
- Google Flights: I love this option, not only for searching and comparing flights, but it has a super handy feature when you’re looking for travel inspiration, where you can simply enter the departure airport and your desired date to see travel options to every possible destination for that particular day from your chosen departure airport – how cool is that!
- Flixbus: One of the most affordable ways, in my opinion, to travel around Europe is by bus. Flixbus operates in over 40 European countries. I usually like to compare Flixbus versus train options.
- Trainline: A go-to option for finding and booking trains across Europe, with an easy-to-use mobile app.
- Discover Cars: A fantastic option for finding rental cars. The comparison option allows you to see options from multiple rental companies – always make sure to read the reviews and the rental terms.
Travel Essentials
Now that we’ve covered the two big topics when it comes to travel planning. Now it’s time to think about all the additional must-haves which add that additional layer of preparedness and value to your trip. I’ve listed my favourites for you here.
- Get Your Guide: I usually like to roam around a new destination before I decide what activities or tours I’m going to book. But when I’m ready to book, I use Get Your Guide to book tours. Their platform offers a wide variety of tour options, from guided walking tours all the way to more unique experiences.
- NordVPN: To ensure I stay safe while browsing online, especially when connected to public Wi-Fi, I also have my NordVPN turned on for peace of mind.
- Saily: The days of being stuck abroad without mobile internet are long gone. Saily’s e-SIM options make it easy to pick a data plan that suits you. Simply pick your plan, download the Saily app, and stay connected. It’s a game-changer, especially when solo travelling.
